About Brie Urbanec

I achieved a B.A. in Government at Sweet Briar College. I have been active through political field work since the age of 14. During those years I gained experience in coordinating College Democrat groups with local campaigns and improved networking among political clubs. I have worked avidly with unions. I started off as a daily committed volunteer running political offices and organizing ground work. In 2008 I was elected as Prescient Committee person. In 2009 I won Democrat of the Year for LaSalle County, IL for my activity in the Congressional Halvorson race. After College my first job was a field organizer in a satellite office for Congressional Candidate Pat Kreitlow. Despite losing, my territory in Hudson, WI turned out a generous GOTV effort. For the past 5 years I have had to remove myself from politics to meet the non-partisan requirements of being an Election Specialist for the Illinois State Board of Elections. At the State Board I managed voter data and aided election jurisdictions through utilization of the Illinois Voter Registration System. I answered questions from the public in regards to elections and registration. Other seasonal duties include testing voting equipment, petition binder checks, and candidate filing. Due to the recent political environment I have resigned from that position to pursue a career that allows me to take part in the progressive movement. Outside of work I appreciate the fine arts, such as music, theater, photography, and dance. Having grown up on a rescue farm I have been an advocate of animal rights and vegetarian for most of my life. I am an active member of the Unitarian Universalist Church.
