About Brigitte Schmidt

Currently, I am a school counselor at Turlington Elementary School in Waller ISD, which is located just outside of Houston, TX. Turlington is a Title 1 school serving 820 pre-kindergarten through fifth-grade students. In this role, I assume many responsibilities. Outside of the traditional counseling responsibilities of individual counseling, small group counseling, response counseling, career development, character development, and scheduling, I assume the additional roles of coordinating the gifted and talented program, RTI coordinator, 504 coordinator, member of the administrative team, and student council sponsor. Through my responsibilities, I build relationships with the students and advocate for their social, emotional, and academic needs. Before becoming a school counselor, I worked as a classroom teacher for nine years and was a children’s pastor for seven years. I am truly passionate about my role as an advocate for children. While I enjoy all aspects of my job, the most rewarding part is when a child receives the services they need. I earned my BS from Texas A&M University in interdisciplinary studies, and I am currently pursuing my master’s degree in school counseling at Lamar University. I am lifetime certified in Texas to teach first through eighth grade in any subject area, and I have a probationary school counselor certification. I am interested in connecting with other professionals in my field to collaborate and learn from one another.
