About Brion Pearson

First and foremost, I am a well-trained and broadly experienced internal medicine clinician, with additional infectious disease training and consultative experience. My patient-centered approach was honed through 17 years of office-based group practice, followed by 9 years of hospitalist experience, including leadership of three different hospitalist groups. Since 2008 I have served as Chief Medical Executive at Sutter Delta Medical Center, a 130-bed community hospital in the San Francisco Bay Area, and part of the larger Sutter Health system. I have extensive experience leading improvement in patient care safety, quality and utilization. Using a web-based data platform (Crimson) I was able to help physicians understand their own performance data, resulting in significant improvements in both quality and cost metrics over a 3-year span. I am adept at physician engagement and supporting physician leaders to improve performance by their peers. I have been physician champion for Core Measure improvement, Clinical Documentation Improvement, and Epic-EHR Implementation. I am skilled at facilitating difficult family conversations regarding goals of treatment for patients, and am also able to have "Crucial Confrontations" with physicians whose performance or behaviors are counterproductive to best patient care. I am a strong physician advocate for improving physician communication with patients, nurses and other physicians, for the benefit of patient outcomes. I am frequently called upon and trusted to resolve conflicts with patients/families or between providers. My passion is to help physicians and physician leaders deliver best-practice, cost-effective care to all of our diverse patient population.
