About Brittany Butkowski

To eat an elephant.you have to take one bite at a time. I had a past mentor, who was also my boss at this time, ask me how to eat an elephant years ago when I first started out in the restaurant industry. It was a bad day, and one of my first days managing the restaurant alone and I thought he was making me pause to answer this question as one more way to make my day worse while everything crashed and burned around me(or so it felt)….well, it may have not made the full impact that day, and it may have taken years in the industry for me to realize he wasn't out to get me, but thankfully one day it fully sunk in. I could have had a boss that day take over and fix the problems, I could have had a boss yell that things weren't running smoothly, etc. and instead, I had someone pause in all the chaos and take the time to make me look at the hurdles, challenges, and opportunities I was facing and figure out how to take them and conquer them."one bite at a time". To this day I live with that saying ingrained in my work ethic. Over 3 years ago I left the restaurant industry and leapt into the world of economic development. I found another industry where my passion for managing and helping people reignited and so far I've loved every moment of it.but go figure that as I face a new career with new challenges and opportunities, I'm still reminding myself "to eat that elephant one bite at a time".
