About Brittany Mercado

Dr. Brittany Mercado is an Associate Professor and Chair of the Management and Entrepreneurship Department in the Love School of Business at Elon University. At Elon, she teaches courses in Organizational Behavior, Human Resource Management, and Staffing. Everywhere she goes, she studies employee performance.and the lack thereof. She has spent over a decade investigating who engages in counterproductive work behaviors—ranging from slacking off to violence and harassment—as well as why and how they do it. Learning about counterproductivity in the workplace has also made her passionate about quality personnel selection and creating structures to support employees’ performance and well-being. Dr. Mercado’s applied work takes two main forms. First, she supports organizations’ selection and assessment efforts, most notably with the development, adaptation, and validation of psychometric and biometric measures (i.e, she makes sure personnel selection tools work). Dr. Mercado has conducted this work in nine countries and seven languages so far. Second, she designs and manages large-scale, multimodal, and longitudinal data collections (sometimes yielding millions of responses). She has provided data management consulting to multinational organizations, as well as research projects sponsored by the Department of National Intelligence and the Department of Defense. Dr. Mercado holds an international MBA from Florida International University, a Ph.D. from the Zicklin School of Business of Baruch College, City University of New York, and SHRM-SCP certification.
