Background
About Brittney Rowe
After graduating from Roanoke College in 2020 with BAs in Literary Studies and Communication Studies, I have been volunteering with my local church as a technology assistant and taking classes from Christian Families Today (CFT), a counseling agency near my home. Through the former, I have been able to continue improve my skills as a camera operator, as well as to cross-train with the audio/visual booth. In the booth, I have been able to control crucial equipment, such as lighting, projection, and act as producer/switcher. I have been able to work as a team member and to deliver quality coverage of Sunday services. Currently, I am also managing the church's social media accounts, applying my experience working as a public relations student assistant for Roanoke College during my undergraduate years. For the former, I started taking courses from CFT last January 2021 to where I am now currently learning Life Coaching Training with the goal of continuing on to their Counseling Internship course. With the completion of the internship, I will then be qualified to work as a children's counselor for CFT and is something I look forward to doing. Currently, I am currently looking to pursue a degree in clinical mental health counseling and later a doctorate in either clinical or counseling psychology. I primarily want to work with home-school students, having been home-schooled myself for several years, as well as with refugees, namely North Koreans if possible. Given the past few years, most students have now experienced what homeschooling would be like. The home-school culture is something both relevant and which I possess insight into. My interest in working with refugees, but especially North Koreans, stems from my experiences abroad conducting research on North Korean refugees' experiences in the South through the ASIANetwork Student-Faculty Fellows program. While there, I was able to get to know North Korean refugee college students and to visit Yeomyung School, an alternative school for refugees for primarily middle and high school ages who would otherwise struggle in the intense South Korean school system. Through my experiences, I decided that this would be something I would like to do in the future; to continue to work with North Korean refugees, in the capacity I could be of most use. Whether this means volunteering with NGOs while working closer to home, or returning to South Korea to work directly with North Koreans full-time, I look forward to seeing where I can go and what I can do. Thank you for reading my profile and I wish you well!
