About Brittney Shane

Licensed social worker working as a school based clinician. I pride myself on using trauma-informed interventions and supporting non-punitive disciplinary policies. The school-to-prison pipeline is an ongoing problem for all students and families, particularly minority students. Therefore, in my career, I hope to advocate for change surrounding policies impacting this pipeline. I have utilized opportunities to study this pipeline and interventions to minimize the effects of it in my classes by doing numerous research papers and presentations on this topic. I have also taken part in a Child and Adolescent Trauma-focused class which discusses how trauma impacts individuals, and how to best intervene. To be able to work through traumatic experiences, students need to be taught how to regulate their emotions and understand them. Based on this belief, I hope to integrate social-emotional learning into my practices and future school environments. Overall, my goal is to help change at least one student/ families life by providing tools and resources to help them be successful.
