About Brock Kurtzman

Started in the restaurant business when I was 13 bussing tables. At 16 started hosting and became a server at 18. As most, I transitioned to bartender at 21 where my introduction into craft beer was slight to none. South Carolina still had a 6% cap on beer. Most craft portfolios had higher abv's and would be a waste of time for the few offerings they had below 6%. I then started at a local restaurant that had the local brewery making their beer for them. As a great salesperson, you have to know your product. I began throwing everything I had and immerse myself into this whole new world of craft beer. I started slowly with the ones I liked and tried to be able to pick them apart for flavors and smells and everything that had to do with that style. I caught myself being sucked into everything that had to do with the new world. Working with this company I had the pleasure of getting to know the owners of the brewery that made our beers. The owners split and here was my chance. I started at a Brewery with just the one owner. He had me scrubbing kegs and helping package learning the distribution side. I would periodically get the chance to watch him doing something on the brewhouse and he would explain what was happening and why. Within 6 months I started shadowing and helping in the brews. By nine months I was solo brewing and by a year I was brewing every batch that was made. In that next 8 years we went from 1,500 barrels to around We went from a team of two to a team of 5. We opened a Taproom and starting selling merchandise. We also spearheaded many functions and events new to the area. We started doing tours and became Trip Advisors 2nd most popular thing to do in Myrtle Beach,(NS even scored a spot on the Monopoly Myrtle Beach Edition!). I loved doing the tours and had a lot of fun interacting with the guests. Seeing where the company is now makes me proud.
