About Brock McMullen

I direct the UW-La Crosse Adapted Physical Education (APE) Teacher Preparation Program in the Department of Exercise and Sport Science, while also directing the Center on Disability Health and Adapted Physical Activity (CDHAPA). Additionally, I am the Director of a nearly completed Office of Special Education Programs (OSEP) APE project and will serve as project director of a new interdisciplinary OSEP project with the graduate school psychology program at UW-La Crosse. Prior to my current position, I served as Project Coordinator of an APE OSEP grant at the University of Utah, where my responsibilities included supervising scholar clinical teaching, seminar planning, and assisting the director with grant administration, recruitment, and performance reports. Furthermore, I have several years of experience in higher education in teacher preparation, and experience in PK-12 APE teaching where responsibilities included student IEP development, assessment, progress monitoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration with special education and related service personnel. I currently teach in the Physical Education Teacher Preparation program at UW-L with major responsibilities for APE courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels. I have been an invited author for textbook chapters on assessment in APE and IEP development for students with disabilities in physical education (McMullen & Felix, in press). I have also published scholarly articles on professional learning communities (PLC), APE advocacy, and the role of physical educators in the school community. I also regularly present at state and national conferences on topics related to APE and aspects of special education and disability issues. I regularly interact with K-12 APE practitioners and related services personnel regarding student development and how evidence-based practices can be integrated into university courses. I also, regularly interact with parents regarding various aspects of the special education process. I also served as an invited member and APE content expert for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction’s State Academic Standards Writing Committee for Physical Education (2020). We were tasked with revising the Wisconsin’s Academic Standards for Physical Education to positively impact student learning.
