About Brooke Balchan

Dr. Brooke Balchan, DO, FAAP, is a board-certified Pediatrician and the Medical Director for the City School District of New Rochelle. She is a member of the American Academy of Pediatrics Council on School Health and the New York State Center for School Health Medical Directors Group. Dr. Balchan has dedicated her professional role to public service in supporting children and their families through life's challenges. Dr. Balchan has extensive knowledge in child and adolescent development, including mental health, and works to promote health, safety, and resilience so that all students can fully participate in their educational and extracurricular programs to reach their best potential. As the Medical Director for the City School District of New Rochelle, Dr. Balchan has led the City School District of New Rochelle through the COVID-19 pandemic, educating the school community and creating protocols to track illnesses and keep everyone safe for the return to in-person instruction. Additionally, she sits on the Westchester County Department of Community Mental Health Trauma Subcommittee and has facilitated community and staff discussions regarding the film Resilience and the impact of trauma on the lifespan. Dr. Balchan was briefly in private practice before following her passion into school health and foster care medicine. She gained experience for her current position while consulting for school districts throughout Westchester County. While at The Children’s Village, she opened their foster care clinic in the Bronx, spearheaded an adolescent reproductive health care program, and encouraged co-parenting alliances between birth and foster parents.
