I am the Chair of the Computer Science Department at Colorado State University, where I have the privilege of leading a dedicated team of teachers, scholars, and staff as we serve Colorado through education and research. From 2019-2023 I was a program manager for DARPA in the I2O office, with interests in AI and mental health, AI agents with augmented reality, adversarial AI, and the geometry of learning. Before that I was a professor and researcher for 20+ years, during which time I published over 100 papers and was funded by multiple agencies (mostly DARPA & NSF, but also IARPA, TSWG, NIMA, CASI and private industry). I am also active in the research community, having chaired the Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR, in and the International Conference on Vision Systems (ICVS, 2003), served as an Area Chair for the International Conference on Machine Learning (ICML, in - 2002), and as a Senior Area Chair for the American Conference on Artificial Intelligence in 2016 & 2018).
