Background
About Bruce Entelisano
After graduating from SUNY Oswego in 2018, I got my first full time teaching position by filling in for a teacher on leave at Cherry Valley-Springfield Central School in Cherry Valley, New York. While living in rural, small-town Upstate New York and knowing that my contract at the school was up at the end of the year, I knew I wanted a big change. I decided to explore possibilities of achieving a long-time dream of mine, which was living in Europe. I discovered the opportunity to work as a language assistant in a bilingual school in Spain and began digging in and started the application process. After COVID hit and everything was up in the air, I persisted on following this dream. In September 2020, I found myself in Madrid, Spain, knowing no one, speaking little to no Spanish, without an apartment, and with a job that started in two weeks. It was the best decision I had ever made. I spent the better part of the next two years living in Madrid and working at CP Federico Garcia Lorca in Colmenar Viejo. I met countless new people, made friends from all different backgrounds, began to learn the language, and got to travel and see the rest of Europe once the COVID travel restrictions had loosened a bit. After returning to my home state of New York in June 2022 to be close to my family again, I was hired at North Colonie Central School District to teach 8th grade Earth and Space Science. Again, this position was a year long contract filling in for a maternity leave. With the grade and subject both being outside of my certification, I was hesitant to accept the position, but knew that I had put myself in difficult situations prior and succeeded, so I felt comfortable with making myself uncomfortable again. I found that I was capable of doing the work (my students had a 100% passing rate on the New York State regents exam), but not passionate about it. Since this realization, I've been exploring work that I can be passionate about and looking for opportunities to help people create their own travel memories.
