About Bruce Hanson

As the Vice President and CFO for BankStar Financial, I am responsible for the management of the financial reporting and all the aspects that it encompasses. ALCO committee leadership, Call Reporting and analysis, Budgeting, and other Enterprise functions are also primary duties. As part of the Executive Leadership team, I will also be involved in the development and success of the Bank. As one of the oldest community banks in Brookings County, BankStar Financial serves the communities of Brookings, Elkton, Volga, and the surrounding areas. I Also took on the role of Information Security Officer and work to help keep the system and controls in place for a secure environment and meet the proper FFIEC guidelines. Transitioning our servers and desktops and implementing a strong control environment using MFA tools has been a major focus. Also worked towards the transition to a Core processing within the Cloud environment and adding accessibility from secure home VPN access during the Covid-19 pandemic have been a key initiative. Through my current roles, I am an advocate of change and improvement. The goal to improve our financial strength and overall security being a primary objective. As a VP / Controller and General Accounting Officer for Home Federal Bank, I was responsible for all reporting, analysis, and accuracy of our financial statements and the controls that govern the overall process. I specialize in the preparation and the filing of all SEC related financial documents, which includes the underlying data collection to maintain our compliance with GAAP, SEC, XBRL and SOX guidelines. I am also responsible for the regulatory financial statements and the federal and state tax returns. In addition, I am responsible for internal use financial statements and related information, and the analysis related to maintaining properly recorded. In conjunction with my duties, I keep up-to-date with the changes and updates and am very experienced using and researching FASB, SEC, XBRL, SOX 404(FDICIA), IRS and banking regulation in general. I oversee the Accounting/Finance Department team, which is an innovative and efficient group of professionals that have been developed under my guidance. Financial analysis, compliance research, department oversight, and Board/Executive reporting continue to be primary focus areas. I am a very adaptable individual with innovation and efficiency as primary goals in department leadership. Reporting goals that I stress are accuracy, reliability, and transparency.
