Background
About Bruce Holley
Public service, policy analysis, economics, and technology—these are some of my biggest interests. I dream of one day working in a position where I can improve the lives of everyone, make the world a safer place, and increase access and knowledge to new technologies. I strongly believe that one's happiness is a direct result of the environment they live in; whatever I can do to help my community, country, economy, or local non-profits, I am committed to putting in a serious effort. Before I enrolled at American University, I intended on majoring in Computer Engineering. One of my biggest hobbies outside of school is to play around with old and new computers. I find it especially gratifying to refurbish old PCs that otherwise would have gone to a landfill. When I realized I had too many old computers piling up at home, I started donating them to people in my community who struggled to make a decent living. The fulfillment I felt by giving back to my community is what inspired me to study government and economics, so that I could one day work for the public's best interest. I believe that these two disciplines, combined with an advanced understanding of Communications and Legal Institutions, will make me a qualified candidate to work in public service.I have experience in dealing with high work loads, stressful environments, and tight schedules. When I started my senior year of high school, I made it my goal to earn enough college credits in order to receive my Associate's Degree on the same day I received my High School Diploma. During that year, I attended high school in the mornings and afternoons, worked approximately 20 hours per week, and accomplished 36 semester credits at Mission College. All the while, I had earned a college GPA of 3.76, allowing me to graduate Magna Cum Laude when I was 17 years old.I am now looking to for part-time employment, as I will soon graduate American University with a Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics, and Government. I recently enjoyed seasonal employment at the Institute for Youth in Policy, where I got my first foray in policy analysis within a professional setting. I really enjoyed this experience, and I'm hoping to soon work somewhere that will similarly allow me to research policy matters, work with a team of people, and teach me new skills that I have yet to learn.
