About Bruce McAskill

Bruce McAskill, partner in BMJ Education Services and founder of Hold Fast Consultants, has a Ph.D. in Mathematics Education from the University of Victoria, as well as a M.Ed. in Curriculum, B. Ed in Secondary Mathematics and Chemistry from the University of British Columbia, and a B.Sc, in Chemistry. Bruce has taught Mathematics 8 to 12, Calculus 12, Chemistry 11, and Physics 11 & 12. He has also taught as a sessional instructor at the University of Victoria. Course taught include: •Constructing Mathematical Understanding •Curriculum & Instruction in Secondary Mathematics •Evaluating Student Achievement (Mathematics & Science) Prior to starting Hold Fast Consultants, Bruce had a career in the British Columbia Ministry of Education. His initial position was Provincial Mathematics Curriculum Coordinator with responsibilities for the Kindergarten to Grade 12 Mathematics curriculum and learning resources. Additionally, Bruce was British Columbia’s representative on the Western & Northern Canadian Protocol Mathematics curriculum team. Later he was the Manager of the Achievements Standards Branch and the Mathematics, Science & Technology Branch. In these roles he oversaw the development of new curriculum document models, as well as the revision of curricula in mathematics, science, and technology.
