Throughout my career, I have demonstrated consistent, quantitative achievement raising principal and major gifts, achieving record levels of annual giving, managing teams of 3 to 80+, and implementing campaigns. These are important. After all, we live in a world of rapid change; standing still means you are falling behind.However, I view myself first and foremost as a coach, mentor, and teacher. I help colleagues to have meaningful conversations with donors, volunteers, and academic leaders to understand their values and aspirations. Together, we create pathways of personal fulfillment through philanthropic partnership. This has been deeply satisfying and rewarding work.My early years were shaped by the values, knowledge, and wisdom of Dave Dunlop, the long-time principal giving strategist for Cornell University. His work lessons—and life lessons—centered on developing a deep understanding of people, relationships, personal values, and our common desire to make a difference.Creativity powers growth and change. As a leader, I am a painter who sees and explores new possibilities with each brush stroke, helping others to see new opportunities as well. The more brushes, of all shapes, sizes, and colors, the more interesting the canvas.
