About Bruce Unruh

Liberal arts educated construction specialist with an artistic bent. I loved college but also working with my hands and just being outdoors, so on completing a BA in psychology and German I went straight into residential construction for the love of carpentry. Studying in Germany gave me a lasting taste for travel, though, and when the opportunity popped up to build houses in Japan I grabbed it and had a great experience living and working there for a good chunk of the 90's. Eventually shifted into commercial construction back in the States with the tech rep position I've now held at American Hydrotech (a roofing/waterproofing manufacturer) for 22+ years. My favorite part of being a tec rep is training contractors on the company's products and especially working with local crews on international projects where I can get another quick fix of cultural exchange, sometimes in places I would never have expected to go but are delightful to glimpse. I've also gotten really good at leak investigation and I take satisfaction in being able to solve the most puzzling/challenging cases where others have thrown up their hands. I'm passionate about photography, and over the last few years I've upgraded to professional level gear and delved deeply into photo editing with Lightroom and Photoshop. More recently I added a flying camera to my arsenal, a high end consumer drone, which has been LOADS of fun and also launched me into video editing with Final Cut Pro. Technical construction work has paid a lot of bills over the years but I'm increasingly longing to follow more creative pursuits and on the lookout for opportunities where my combined skillsets in photography and construction would be an asset. I consider my biggest strengths to be a curious, logical and open mind and the ability to interact easily with with a wide diversity of people.
