Background
About Bruestle John
During Covid 19, I taught automotive technology virtually to the students at Carmel High School. Also, I transformed an almost dead automotive/industrial arts program into one that was growing in enrollment and articulated with the local community colleges. Equipment and tools were added and organized so students could learn at their best. Class shop vehicles were asked for and donated by the community. Welding was taught and I added it to my skill set by taking classes at Hartnell College Welding program in Salinas. All equipment was repaired or updated with new. When I left the program in July 2022, it was completely turn-key for the new incoming teacher. While employed at Ocean View High School in the Huntington Beach Union High School District I increased student enrollment, updated curriculum and equipment to meet today’s common core and industry standards, and transformed the automotive technology class into an automotive engineering class. The automotive engineering class brought math, science, physics, chemistry, and engineering laws and concepts into the class and how they related to the automobile’s design, operation, and manufacturing. Through Perkins funding and applying for grants, I was able to computerize the classroom with state of art computers and the Solidworks engineering design software program. Students learned the basics of designing parts and products for the automotive industry and were able to print out their designs on a state-of-the-art 3D printer. This introduced them to rapid prototyping in the manufacturing process of vehicles. I have my bachelor's, and master's degrees, and my teaching, and administrative credentials. Currently, I have almost 20 years of teaching experience and almost 5 years of CTE administrative experience. I believe this experience has given me a great background in dealing with many types of diverse students and situations on a high school campus and different districts and challenges that come up while working at county offices of education.
