About Bruno Gascon
Bruno Gascon is a Portuguese director and screenwriter. After living and studying filmmaking at SAE Amsterdam, where he moved following a family tragedy that led him to channel his emotions into writing and cinema, Gascon returned to Portugal. He initially worked as a documentary director, focusing on cultural themes. In 2014, after his return, he wrote and directed the short film "Boy," which won several national and international awards, including the Rising Star Award at the Canada International Film Festival in 2015. In 2015, another short film written and directed by Bruno Gascon,"Vazio," was featured in the Short Film Corner of the Cannes Film Festival. It later traveled to various festivals worldwide. In 2018, he wrote and directed "Carga," his first feature film, which ranked among the top 5 most-watched Portuguese films of 2018. With successful box office results in Portugal, positive reviews, and sales to over 30 countries, the film also received awards at various international film festivals and nominations for the Sophia Awards. At the end of 2019, Bruno Gascon wrote and directed "Sombra," a powerful story about motherhood, love, courage, and hope. The project gained attention during the 2019 Locarno Festival, and its distributor sold the film to diverse markets, including the USA, Latin America, China, India, and South Korea."Sombra" premiered successfully at the Barcelona-Sant Jordi International Film Festival, winning two awards: the Critics' Award and the Film-History Award. It was also selected for other prestigious festivals."Sombra" won two Sophia Awards and received a nomination for a Golden Globe. It premiered in Portugal on October 14, 2021, with positive results. In 2021, Bruno Gascon filmed his third feature film,"Pátria," and directed the series "Evadidos" for RTP. The TV series adaptation of "Sombra" aired in July 2022 on RTP, achieving good ratings. His third feature film,"Pátria," premiered on October 19, following screenings in Italy, the UK, and Moldova, where it won a festival's main prize due to its subject. Currently, Bruno Gascon is working on several projects, including the crime series "Irreversível" starring Margarida Vila-Nova for RTP. He is also developing the feature film "Longe" a co-production with Italy and the tv series "O último Lobo"(Conecta Fiction winner of a development agreement with RTVE in 2022, a co-production between SPi and Caracol and involved as director of the adaptation of João Tordo's book "Águas Passadas", the project was presented at the Fiction Pitch in Mallorca on October, 2023.
