Background
About Bryan Adams
For 7 years I served as an Army Airborne Ranger. I graduated Ranger School as a lower enlisted soldier and achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant by only 22 years old. I graduated with a Bachelor’s of Arts in Psychology from American Military University (AMU) with a 4.0 GPA, and a member of both honor and leadership societies. I currently attend Capella University’s Maser of Social Work (MSW) program, where I also hold a 4.0 and status in honors and leadership societies. I have been finishing my Associates of Arts (AA) as an educational side hobby, and should graduate before the summer of 2023. I’m currently exploring the possibility of starting a Master’s of Business Administration (MBA) with AMU in the summer of this year. Regardless, my plan is to start a PhD in Organizational Psychology & Master’s in Philosophy (MPhil) from Walden University in 2024, which will take a maximum of 5 years to complete. I’ll be registering with the Board of Behavioral Sciences (BBS) in June 2024 to receive my Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW) status and work towards full state licensure. My time as an Airborne Ranger had me serve in numerous different job capacities. Some of my favorites included my time as a Reconnaissance Squad Leader, and my time as an M240B Heavy Machine Gunner. In the garrison environment, I have found myself in charge of units numbering up to approximately 150 U.S. Soldiers when the absence of higher-ranked leaders made me the senior-ranking Non-Commissioned Officer. My first position outside of the Army was as an investigative Social Worker with Shasta County Children’s Services, also known as Child Protective Services (CPS). After 6 months of working for CPS, I requested to be the department’s head investigator for East Shasta County, meaning I would be assigned to the majority of rural investigations, working with a higher degree of autonomy on a more complex caseload. I have written a significant amount of court reports for local judges, some of which exceed 40 pages in total. Currently, I’m a Social Worker at Dignity Health through Mercy Medical Center, one of the top hospitals in North State. In this position, I have been introduced to new social work skills, such as conducting my own independent psychosocial assessments. This has been an excellent opportunity to synthesize professional psychosocial assessments with the psychosocial assessment techniques I have learned in graduate school. In my position, I am in charge of making vendor purchases which require application of what I have learned from my statistics classes.
