Background

About Bryan Horst

I am the primary procurement officer at an OEM that serves the agricultural community. I have 18+ years of purchasing experience overseeing a $15MM budget, I manage global supply chains, negotiate vendor contracts and optimize procurement strategies. I've been able to lower costs, turn inventory, and work with a variety of individuals and teams that have a multitude of functions with the ultimate goal of keeping production continuously going. I manage material stocking levels, update order point quantities and lead times, lower landed costs, negotiate contracts domestically and internationally, source new vendors, perform quality control functions, resolve conflict, eliminate over-billing, manage a MRP system, authorize payment, assist with year-end reconciliation, update BOMs and finished goods' costs, and manage the department. I'm responsible for the sourcing of a wide variety of products that include but are not limited to: electronics (components, PC Boards, connectors, magnetic laminations and magnet wire), raw materials (steel, aluminum wire, paint, plastics and fiberglass), consumables (solder, flux, thinner, drawing compound, soap, rinse, filters, etc.), fasteners (screws, nuts, bolts, etc.) resale items (posts, application tools and insulators), packaging (boxes, clamshells, foam and inserts) solar panels, batteries, plastic housings, power cords, spools, nameplates, equipment and tools. I negotiated and oversaw the facilities repair when it was needed. I've purchased facility rooftop equipment. Some of my cost saving efforts include spearheading an in-house wire harness initiative that saved us relative to what my predecessor had been buying from overseas. The equipment investment was recuperated in less than 6 months. I work to eliminate reoccurring costs. For example, I was able to get rid of $20 delivery fees that reduced corrugated packaging costs significantly I have turned missed opportunities into profit. Where we were paying a hazardous waste company to remove batteries, we began to sell them for up to $900 per gaylord to recycling companies that salvaged the lead. Modernization of our product from through-hole PCB assembly to SMT required me to make equipment purchases, site preparation and coordinate component purchase I've been able to navigate challenges that inevitably arise for my whole career. An example; in 2015 a tariff on solar panels foreshadowed what was to come, but helped me sharpen skills. Rapidly sourcing vendors and working to approve products is key in the environment I buy product in today.
