About Bryan McCann

I am an educator, author, researcher, and communication professional specializing in cultural criticism, interpretation, media communication, teaching, and diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI). My training and experience in the fields of media, communication, and cultural studies, as well as my research in areas such as popular culture, cultural history, race/ethnicity, gender and sexuality, public advocacy, and crime and public culture enable me to perform research, interpret qualitative data such as archives, communicate academic material to lay audiences, create and execute public presentations, and collaborate with or lead professional teams. I am author of the 2017 book The Mark of Criminality: Rhetoric, Race, and Gangsta Rap in the War-on-Crime Era, as well as three dozen scholarly articles and book chapters. I have taught students at undergraduate and graduate levels, and from a variety of demographic backgrounds. I am also an experienced administrator and have designed DEI trainings and policies.
