About Bryanna Barrera

I am a first-gen Latina, former college athlete with a passion for literature, education, and community development. I completed my undergraduate career with a degree in English and minors in Spanish and Secondary Education with a Secondary Education license in the state of Wisconsin. Immediately out of undergrad I was accepted into a prestigious PhD program in English at the University of Texas at Austin where I teach undergraduate classes on rhetoric and writing while completing research concerning Latinx-U.S. immigration narratives and the ways immigration policy affects the environment, the immigrant body, and the development of Latinx communities within the States. I am active within my department through various organizations that work to build community amongst graduate students, graduate students of color, and work with departmental leadership to ensure the proper treatment of and advocation for graduate students. I am experienced in academic writing, technical writing, research, editing and publishing, diversity, equity and inclusion work, racially sensitive and trauma informed pedagogy, e-learning, and a multitude of theoretical schools of thought including ecocriticism, critical race theory, and post humanism. I am looking to translate these skills into a non-academic atmosphere and begin developing my career.
