About Bryanna MacDonald

Simply put, my passion is people. That may sound funny from someone in the Building Industry, but to me, it makes perfect sense, and I can explain. When I was seven years old, I undeniably decided that I was going to design buildings. How does a seven-year-old decide this? Well, it was all because of a little computer game called the Sims. The whole premise that properly designed environments can bring people together, make a difference in a life, and contribute to personal and emotional wellbeing absolutely captivated me. I worked relentlessly from then on to achieve my childhood ambitions. Today, I can proudly say I have seen those ambitions become a reality in my experience working at HDR. I believe that all it takes is one compassionate design decision and one creative solution to make all the difference; from the family visiting a recovering addict, to the doctor saving the life of a stranger, right down to the parent who works a long day and still needs the energy left to spend quality time with their families. Good, thoughtful design makes a difference. My passions don't just end with our clients and users. In the time that I have been with HDR, I have been fortunate to have support from my team members and the opportunity to grow an office culture centered around Health and Wellness. I coordinate Wellness Team members in all of our Canadian offices, create various Wellness Challenges in order to connect people with friendly competition, and I send out weekly emails that are intended to make people laugh, highlight an interesting topic, and lightly remind everyone that their health and wellbeing, both physical and mental, are not things to be taken for granted. My personal hobbies outside of the office include mountain biking, running, painting, drawing, writing, traveling and spending time with all my favorite people.
