When we think of the human brain, the realm of possibilities seems endless. How we think, behave, and exist are all impacted by our mental health. Mental health carries the potential to affect ourselves and our interactions with others. For example, the split decisions made in emergency situations or assessing the appropriate provision of care exist on intricate balances that can be tipped in a variety of directions based on our own mental health and/or the mental health of another person.I am a pre-accelerated BSN (Bachelor of Science of Nursing) student at Indiana University. I decided to modify my career path when I realized my enthusiasm for understanding and developing physical and mental healthcare exceeded the potential of my BA in Psychology. I yearn for a dynamic career and challenging scenarios to exercise my convictions and put me in a position to improve the health and quality of life of others. As appreciative as I am for the opportunities I had to test, learn, and grow from my early work, I chose to run towards my call to something greater and enter the next chapter of my career in healthcare.Through close interactions with my clients and coworkers, I discovered a new area of interest within the medical field that I never realized existed. After earning my BSN, I will pursue a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree with a concentration in Psychiatric Mental Health as it would provide ideal leadership opportunities while leaving the options open for work in an academic setting or a clinical setting.Given my background in customer service, research, case management, mental healthcare, educational leadership, and team building, I believe I am on the right track for advancing my future and revolutionizing the field of mental and physical healthcare.
