About Bryce Askey

As a biological engineering and horticultural science student, I pride myself in being a creative problem solver that approaches a question from a multitude of angles in order to develop a solution. I love to work hands on, and understand new concepts best when I am able to see and touch them. Collaboration with others is very important to me as well, as appreciating differing viewpoints allows me better understand a problem myself. I exhibit leadership qualities when working in a group as a result of my driven but organized nature, and will attempt to first completely understand a problem before delegating tasks in order to solve it. Recently, I discovered that I have a great interest in agriculture, and more specifically sustainable agricultural practices. As a volunteer gardener in the Organic and Sustainable Agriculture Club (OSAC), I have cooperated with other volunteers to implement sustainable agricultural practices in order to eliminate environmentally harmful consequences, such as fertilizer and pesticide runoff. I also believe this passion for sustainable agricultural to be the reason for my interest in research within biological engineering and horticultural science. I hope that the projects that I work on will help to feed the world in coming decades. My areas of expertise include: MATLAB, Python, Machine learning, Support vector regression, Image processing (digital and thermal), Camera calibration, High performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Absorption spectroscopy, and SolidWorks
