Background
About Brysen Frey
About Me: I was born and raised in Sterling Heights, MI. I graduated from Sterling Heights High School in 2005 with honors. Here I was National Honor Society President, I had been apart of a wonderful drama program, I was section leader in the marching band, and class representative. I was offered a prestigious student scholarship for my first year of school at the University of Detroit Mercy. I enjoyed my first year there but after the scholarship ended, I learned that I needed a more affordable option. I went to Oakland University of a year but I knew I was meant to be somewhere else. I had family in Texas that I had visited throughout my childhood. After being accepted to the University of Houston- Victoria I headed to Texas. I graduated from the University of Houston in 2010 with a bachelor degree in Humanities. Go Cougars! During my time in college and a little after I worked at the Taste of Texas. I really felt a sense of family there. I embraced my guests every night, I participated in conversations with them and became part of their celebrations. It was here that I learned that I wanted to interact with people on a daily basis and that I was good at it, little did I know that I would want to interact with a younger group of people. After a few years I realized it was time to move on and utilize my bachelor degree. In 2014 I started working at Texas Children's Hospital. Daily interaction with children sparked a fire inside; I wanted to feed children's thirst for knowledge; I wanted to make a difference. It "clicked" that I needed to act on this notion. In 2016 I was accepted in the Accelerated Teacher Certification Program where I had the pleasure of learning what it takes to be a glorious, student-centered teacher. I cannot wait for my new chapter to begin, to make a difference in a child's life is priceless. Now I am in the process of obtaining my Masters degree in counseling. I am hoping to bring a guidance counselor and help those like my counselor did when I was a student. Today our students are making history through challenges no one else can say they faced before. Therefore, I want to be there to sympathize, create paths to goals to help them better embrace what is going on in their lives. I feel I will help change the lives of little ones one day at a time.
