About Buck Buchanan
Professor of Geography and founder of the LSC-CF Center for Geoscience. Founding faculty and Dept. Chair, Geosciences, Lone Star College-CyFair. 14 years in the transportation aviation industry at American Airlines (college years). Gained valuable travel and travel industry experience before starting a career in Geography education. Opportunity to teach on two continents and conduct fieldwork in Italy and Belize and spent the last 12 years leading International field study and study abroad programs in Italy, Belize, Germany and France. In 2015, founded the LSC Center for Geosciences as a resource for students and faculty interested in research applications of geospatial technology and Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) mapping and remote sensing. Current fieldwork/research interests- Natural hazards research, mapping redevelopment and environmental resilience in hurricane-affected regions of the eastern Caribbean (Summer 2020 travel grant award postponed due COVID-19)- Social and ecological sustainability along the barrier islands of the Mesoamerican Reef System of Belize (estimated return in Summer 2022) Next Project (post-COVID-19): GIS Summer Field School - UAS mapping and remote sensing in West Texas, New Mexico and Colorado with the National Parks and environmental education outreach partners (proposed, Summer 2021) http://apps.lonestar.edu/blogs/bbuchanan/
