About Byron Goodwin

Upon completion of year 12 of school, I studied sport studies at the NZIS for 12months. I have always been mechanically minded and hands on, so I worked various jobs through recruitement agencies before I started working the hospitality industry. I started off casual as a night porter and quickly moved to night duty manager, which helped me add public relations and customer service to my skill set. I moved to Australia in 2008 and continued in the hospitality industry as front desk reception, having the opportunity to work at two different hotels furthing my ability to work in small teams and deal with people from various walks of life. In 2010 looking for a change of scenery, I had then taken up a role in the mining industry, working for an american company operating on a Rio Tinto site in the Northern Territory working as a trades assistant. In this role I had the opportunity to further my mechanical skills and experience FIFO work. This role went on for 8months. As the FIFO work had come to an end I was offered the opportunity to learn a new skill in the telecommunications industry working as an assistant to my dad. The NBN had just started and I took the chance to be accredited in splicing and testing. Our company had grown slightly and work in Broome and Geraldton had come up which we undertook. I was able to successfully lead a small crew to building and completing a substantial amount of the NBN network in WA. I have worked at the very bottom of the Telecommunications Industry (Fibre Specific), to managing bigger projects, working closely with a number of companies like Service Stream, Lend Lease, Downer and Engytech to name afew. Due to the workforce experience I have picked up along the way, I believe my role as a manager is only possible because of the experiences and skills I attained by being hands on in the fields I work in. I am always looking for opportunities to improve on the skills and knowledge I possess as well as learning the new.
