About Byron Thomas

I’m someone that always finds a way to complete any task. Being an athlete all my life has given me the mentality to never quit. Everything started in high school, when I turned North Augusta High School (NAHS) into a National Green/Solar School. The 2 kilowatt system powers 5% of the school. Through that experience I received a lot of “no’s” and had lots of doubters, but I kept the faith and God never let me fail. Also, I started the environmental club at NAHS. We were most notorious for picking up the trash inside the football stadium the Saturday after a game. Not only did we take the responsibility away from an elderly man, but we recycled every plastic bottle that we found. When I went to college, I wanted to start a scholarship pageant. I love doing things that challenge me and take me out of my comfort zone. More importantly, I want to leave a positive legacy on this earth. At the University of South Carolina, I not only was a SGA senator every year, but I founded the Gamecock Pageant Club (GPC). GPC is an organization the runs the Miss Gamecock Pageant. In the last three years, we’ve given over worth of scholarship money to pageant participants. Our winner also represents USC at Miss South Carolina and if she were to win that, she’d go on to Miss America. While in college I became extremely political achieve. I’ve interned in D.C. as well as for the state of South Carolina. Once I graduated from USC, Congressman Joe Wilson (my mentor) offered me a job to work for him. It’s a dream come true and every morning I wake up knowing I not only work for someone I look up to, but I work for a man that’s highly respected around the world. Lastly, I’m a board member of Rivers Edge Retreat, which is a nonprofit that serves unserved children in the Columbia area. I’m blessed to be from South Carolina where we’re known for “Beautiful Places and Smiling Faces.” Go Gamecocks! May God Bless the United States of America!
