Background
About C. Kelsey Ryan
Individualization • Learner • WOO • Empathy • Connectedness | ESFJ | 3w2I am a leadership development and engagement scholar practitioner who studies and designs experiences that help students develop empathy, purpose, and a sense of responsibility to their communities. Through service learning, global engagement, and values based leadership education, I connect research and practice to support meaningful student growth and long term impact. My work sits at the intersection of leadership education, civic and community engagement, student success, and fraternity and sorority life. Across higher education and K–12 contexts, I have led programs and initiatives focused on leadership development, service learning, volunteerism, family engagement, and values based fraternity and sorority experiences. I am especially interested in how motivation, identity, and belonging shape students’ willingness to lead, serve, and engage responsibly within organizations and communities.I bring a relational, values driven approach to leadership, grounded in honesty, empathy, and collaboration. I enjoy building systems and cultures that support ethical leadership, accountability, and care for others, particularly within high impact environments like fraternity and sorority life. I am most energized by work that aligns mission with measurable outcomes and prioritizes student development alongside institutional responsibility. In addition to my administrative work, I am an active writer, researcher, and presenter. My scholarship and presentations explore leadership development through service learning, empathy and motivation, hazing prevention, student engagement, and fraternity and sorority life. I am particularly drawn to translating research into practice in ways that help institutions design leadership experiences that matter beyond the classroom.I am always interested in conversations about leadership education, fraternity and sorority life, experiential learning, community engagement, and building institutional cultures rooted in purpose, belonging, and civic responsibility.
