I am an Occupational Therapist based in Waterford. Currently working in a rotational position in University Hospital Waterford (UHW). UHW is a model 4 tertiary referral hospital which provides arrange of services including general medical, surgical, maternity and specialist care. The hospital is part of the South/South West Hospitals Group. I graduated from University College, Cork in 2020 with BSc Hons in Occupational Therapy. Since graduating and beginning OT employment in October 2020 I have worked in primary care adult and pediatric service (one year and 8 months). In this role I became proficient in home environment assessment, functional assessment, assessment transfer and prescription of suitable aids (e.g. sara stedy, hoist etc) specialist seating and postural assessment, specialist equipment prescription and provision and powered mobility assessment and client training. I served a population of a large rage of ages from 18 years to older adult with a myriad of functional difficulties and chronic conditions/ disability e.g. Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson, Dementia, age related health issues as well as any co-morbidities that impact clients health, well being, occupational performance and community participation. In my role with the pediatric service I became competent in occupational therapy screening assessment of children between ages 0-18 based on their developmental milestones and identifying occupational performance difficulties. I became skilled in collaborating with parents and caregivers, goals setting with child and families and providing education, coaching relating to prescribed treatment programmes. I became adept with the CO-OP approach and supported children to achieve occupational goals tand coached parents and children to adopt the principles of CO-OP into their routine in order to empower them to problem solve and achieve their goals. I have worked in University Hospital Waterford since July 2022. I have worked in a rotational role and have gained clinical experience in general medicine, frailty, respiratory care, acute rehabilitation, emergency department, and post surgical recovery and rehabilitation. I have keen l interest in continued professional development. I have a strong interest in rehabilitation and expanding my clinical skills and knowledge in the area of neurology and stroke.
