About Caf Dowlah
Professor Dowlah is currently a Visiting Scholar with the University of Fordham Law School, New York. Previously, he served as a Visiting Scholar with the University of Miami Law School (Florida) and the University of Columbia Law School, New York. Prior, Dr. Dowlah served the State University of New York (SUNY) and the City University of New York (CUNY) as a tenured professor of Economics for three decades. He also taught at the Otaru University of Commerce (Japan), University of Dhaka and BRAC University (Bangladesh), University of Southern California (USC), and California State University at Fullerton and Los Angeles. He also worked for the World Bank, the United Nations (UNDP and WFP), and the USAID in policy advisory capacities for several years. Dr. Dowlah earned his Ph.D. and Master's degree in Economics from the University of Southern California. He earned his LL.M. degree from the University of Miami Law School. Prof. Dowlah authored over two dozen books and over three dozen papers on international investment, international trade, immigration and cross-border labor mobility, traditional and modern slavery, global supply chains, and legal frameworks of U.S. economic sanctions. His most recent book,"Economic and Financial Sanctions of the United States: Legal Perspectives," was published by Cambridge University Press in February 2025. His forthcoming book,"Crafting An Immigrant Republic: Legal Foundations of U.S. Immigration Policy," is being published by Palgrave Macmillan. Dr. Dowlah also served as a Contributor/Columnist for several media outlets, including the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU, London), the Japan Times (Tokyo), the Daily Star (Dhaka), the Financial Express (Dhaka), and the Far Eastern Economic Review (Manila).
