About Caitlin Dailey

Ever since I was young, I have been attracted to the natural world. I would play in the forest, climb trees, and started horseback riding when I was 7 years old. I would learn and fascinate over all things, even the spiders and the snakes that most people would shy away from. I never minded getting dirty to get a job done. This passion for the natural world inspired me to pursue Environmental Science in college where I learned how threatened our world is. It scares me that the nature I grew up with could possibly disappear due to climate change. Recently, I have become more active in participating in a zero waste lifestyle and hope to continue this passion with volunteer work at our local green spaces. While pursuing my Master's in Environmental Science, I took a few classes in ArcGIS. I learned how powerful mapping could be. I'll admit I have almost zero sense of direction but I found it fascinating how much you could uncover about the landscape through modeling and working with datasets. This exposure to ArcGIS and LiDAR models for an Environmental Science application is what got me into Eagleview. There, I have learned even more ways that Aerial Triangulation and LiDAR can be used for making imagery mosaics and 3D products. I even started to dabble into Python and Arcpy in order to create scripts to streamline our workflow. It is extremely satisfying to finally make a script that can take a tedious and complex manual task and do the work for you in a few minutes. I found my niche of data organization and facilitating communication between various teams within our department to improve our workflows. For example, I have actively engaged in improving the IR Accuplus workflow with the sharing of workflow tools between the AT team and Geomatics to reduce back and forth communication about 4band creation between the two teams. I love learning new information and skills. I regularly watch documentaries and listen to educational podcasts as well as take classes through the Rochester Brainery. I’ve recently taken up Aikido, my second martial arts so far with Tae Kwon Do being my first. I am trying to learn a second language, Japanese, and hope to travel the world. I’ve been to Spain and Canada so far but would love to visit Japan, South Korea, Finland, Germany, and the UK to name a few.
