Background
About Caitlin Daly
I received my B.A. in Ancient Near Eastern Civilizations from the University of California, Berkeley, and earned my M.A. in Historical Archaeology from the University of Leicester. I currently teach fourth and fifth grade science and a fourth grade homeroom at Kids Connection, an academically accelerated elementary school in Foster City. Prior to my current position, I was the Director of the Anthropology Laboratory at Foothill College in Los Altos, California, before which I held the position of Curator at the Rosicrucian Egyptian Museum in San Jose. I worked as site curator on the Castroville Mammoth Project during excavation, and continued thereafter to work closely on the project overseeing specimen processing and research carried out at the Foothill Anthropology Laboratory. I have also completed local survey projects on the historic sites of Lathrop House and Union Cemetery in Redwood City. My primary research interest is in funerary archaeology, particularly the treatment of the human body and its social and ritual functions, as well as American funerary customs. It is in this vein that I conducted my dissertation research. I take an interdisciplinary approach to archaeology, and strive to incorporate theories and methods derived from sociology, anthropology and science within my research. I also take an active interest in conservation and heritage management, and was fortunate to have the opportunity to apply those skills in working with the collections at Foothill College and the Egyptian Museum. I enjoy teaching history, art history, anthropology, archaeology, science and writing at any grade level. I have experience as an art instructor, substitute teacher and tutor, and have created a business offering enrichment education in history and science based on my archaeology experience. My teaching experience ranges from pre-school and special needs education to lecturing at the college level, in addition to designing curriculum and educational programs. Specialties: Experienced in all aspects of historical collections care, including curation, conservation and cataloguing. Extensive experience in academic research, writing and presentation, including public lectures and conference presentations. Experience teaching at every level (elementary through college), including tutoring for special needs and gifted children. Extensive curriculum design experience.
