Background
About Caitlin Henning
Hi, my name is Caitlin, and I recently graduated from the University of Michigan, completing my B.S.E. in Computer Science. I utilize my skills as a problem solver to empower others through tech.I am a co-author of the paper: Ludification as a Lens for Algorithmic Management: A Case Study of Gig-Workers’ Experiences of Ambiguity in Instacart Work, published by ACM. I accomplished this through my role as a research assistant with the Human-Computer Interaction Lab, where I gathered hundreds of Reddit posts from gig economy workers and qualitatively analyzed the effect of black-box algorithms on workers' experiences. Our team's paper proposed a framework to explain the blurring lines between work and play in algorithmic management, establishing a need to improve worker experiences through improved software platforms.I was a Software Solutions intern at FTI Consulting during the Summer of 2023 where I focused on improving the front-end for a website developed for a Fortune 500 client. My accomplishments included- Adding accessibility for mobile users by implementing a responsive design suitable for both iPhone and Android screens- Implementing language-changing capabilities to support Spanish-speaking users- Leading a new implementation of End to End (e2e) tests using Playwright, a tool never before used on our teamI was supported by a fantastic team of engineers, and I had the opportunity to work closely with our UX designer, who taught me the importance of a smooth user flow.I am passionate about inclusivity in STEM, as indicated by my leadership role through End the Cycle, a student organization where I started a Computer Science Committee to expand learning resources to underserved communities and break down barriers to STEM careers. I led my team to create a week-long Python bootcamp from scratch, tailored towards interactive learning with our students. We guided students through lessons, labs, and a personalized choose-your-own-adventure capstone project. It was truly rewarding to see the students develop their programming and creative skills. As technology continues to evolve, I look forward to evolving as a Computer Science professional, continuously uplifting others and challenging barriers along the way.
