About Caitlin Redfield

I am currently a middle school reading teacher in the Ithaca City School District. Throughout my 13 years in the district, my role as a reading teacher has changed yearly based on the needs of our student population. I've worked as a co-teacher in ELA, Social Studies, and Science. I've taught small ELA intervention classes. For this school year, my focus has shifted to supporting our most struggling readers through direct, decoding instruction. I also help support literacy throughout the school as the reading department leader. I've also served as the RtI (Response to Intervention) coordinator as my role as a reading teacher has placed me as head of the AIS (Academic Intervention Services) department. I love developing curricula and strategies to help teachers differentiate instruction in their classrooms in order to allow all students to feel successful in the general education setting. I've developed a knack and passion for record-keeping and data collection in my role as a department leader, and love to be given a "problem" to investigate and find solutions for. Outside of teaching, I am passionate about helping people in different ways and have become a certified dog trainer due to my love of dogs and helping them (and their owners) live their best lives :) I, of course, am also an avid reader and life-long learner.
