Background
About Caitlin Ruby Miller
I believe that throughout the therapeutic process, with proper interventions, incredible change can emerge for clients. I have worked with clients ages from 9 to 65+, with the full spectrum of diagnoses from minor to acute in individual, family, couples, and group settings. I am particularly interested expanding the paradigm of neurodiversity, with the aim of changing the conversations we have around mental health. I am a passionate member of the team at Effective Artistry, a group therapy practice in the North Chicagoland area that focuses on the paradigm of neurodiversity. My interpretation of the term includes that there are advantageous and disadvantageous parts of our brains, and that the Western pathological medical model has some merit, but also misses the mark at times in acknowledging the nuanced humanity of clients. I have witnessed and been honored to be a part of helping people find greater meaning in life, have their environment begin to accommodate them, and learn how to increase the manifestation of the advantageous elements of their brain and minimize the distress caused by the disadvantageous parts. I welcome collaboration and exploration from other practitioners and people on Linkedin who are also interested in neurodiversity. I graduated in August of 2019 with a Master of Art in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Adler University. I achieved a 4.0, and I am a member of the Chi Sigma Iota International Honors Society, Illinois Counseling Association (ICA), and the Illinois Psychological Association (IPA). I am a National Certified Counselor (NCC) and a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC). In my studies, I have sought additional training regarding bipolar, artistic, and LGBTQIA+ populations. My thesis explored the topic of integrating creative methods to treat bipolar disorder. I continued as a research assistant post-graduation on two studies: one on lesbians regarding social support and the other on transgender folks exploring constructs of gender. In July of 2019 I shared both studies at a conference in Cuba in poster presentations. I have worked in the community mental health setting, the inpatient psychiatric setting, and the private practice setting. Having numerous perspectives on the way the mental health system in this country works helps to deepen my current outpatient psychotherapy practice. My Bachelor of Music in Classical Vocal Performance (Opera), owning and running a photography studio, writing numerous types of prose, have all helped me bring a unique perspective to the medical industry.
