About Caitlin Turner

BSc (Hons) Marine Biology graduate from the University of Stirling - Policy Officer for the Sustainable Inshore Fisheries Trust (SIFT), working to develop and advocate for policies promoting the sustainable management of Scottish inshore fisheries (2023/24)- Fisheries Project Officer for Seafish (2022/23): contributed to the creation of the UK’s first Fisheries Management Plans for crab, lobster and whelk stocks in English waters, as well as responding to external enquiries regarding seafood species sustainability, and supporting/contributing to research for additional internal projects- Sustainability Officer for the Stirling Students’ Union (2021/22), responsible for creating and implementing sustainability policies and projects across the Union and wider Stirling campus - Founder and President of the University of Stirling’s first Marine Conservation Society (2019-2022): a society established to connect students and the wider Stirling community with issues impacting the marine environment, and provide volunteer opportunities to get involved in conservation action. My role also included building connections with external conservation organisations, organising fundraising events, and managing the society social media feeds. The society also recently joined the Our Seas Coalition as its 101st member, calling for the reinstatement of Scotland’s 3-mile inshore limit- BDMLR Marine Mammal Medic - Young Sea Changers Scotland Trustee - Sea Champion and Beachwatch volunteer for MCS UK (since 2019): the UK’s leading marine conservation organisation. Through my Sea Champion role I carry out extensive public engagement - from school presentations to community events - as well as assisting and conducting citizen science projects, supporting and promoting MCS campaigns, and beach/community cleanups. As a Beachwatch volunteer, I’m responsible for conducting litter surveys on my nominated beach - including arranging the annual Great British Beach Clean for my site - and providing data collected to the MCS- Worked part-time as a retail assistant for FatFace (2018-2022), where I also represented the Stirling store as Sustainability Champion: responsible for ensuring our store operates in line with company targets to be zero-waste and carbon neutral by 2025 - Supervisor for the Stirling Students’ Union Green & Blue Space: an eco-hub & zero-waste shop on campus (2022)- Have experience of volunteering in marine life rehabilitation from participation in a PMGY volunteer project in Sri Lanka, where I worked at a sea turtle sanctuary for a month
