Background
About Cal Maddox
We've all probably felt the pain of losing someone we love at one point in our lives. Sometimes, we lose people in tragic, unpreventable ways such as sicknesses or horrible accidents. But sometimes loved ones are lost due to completely preventable circumstances! Each year, thousands of people lose loved ones due to preventable workplace accidents. The pain of sending a loved one off to work never to see them again is indescribable. That's why as an Occupational Safety and Health Specialist, I work exhaustively to make sure that everybody who comes to work makes it home from work! I have an obsession with safety, it's more than just a fascination, it's a way of life! As early as the age of 11, I felt that is was my duty to keep people safe. And while the circumstances and severity have changed a lot since my days of being a playground monitor, my sense of duty to protect others has not! This sense of duty led me to pursue a career in the medical field where I felt that being able to help prevent disease and bodily harm was my calling! Through judicious study and application, I became very familiar with the human body and it's many, many weaknesses. Even still, I felt like I would be needed somewhere else and that medicine was not my calling. That's when I was introduced to the field of Occupational Safety and Health and found my true passion. In my new career path, I have integrated my prior knowledge of the human body with the training, skills and knowledge to mitigate against and prevent workplace accidents. I feel it is my duty to make sure every available practice, protocol and procedure is in place to keep the employees at my facility safe. And I take my duty very seriously! As an Intern at Intel, I have written a safety training manual for a complex piece of machinery, performed Job Hazard Analyses and Qualitative Risk Analyses, conducted quarterly compliance assessments, reviewed and corrected errors in corporate-level safety programs, created a new procedure for storing compliance documentation for Lasers and Radiation, oversaw the inventory and assessment processes for the Confined Space Entry program at my facility and assisted in the Chemical Evaluation Material Review Process for over 200 different chemicals.
