Background
About Caleb Allison
I’m a car guy. Always have been and always will be. Growing up I always had a great passion for cars. I’ll admit that I’m seduced by the combination of beauty, power and speed. The way individual components work in tandem to create a fine-tuned machine solidified my interests in problem solving and working on complex projects. I decided that I wanted my career to be like building cars. I chose an architect’s life so I could use my gifts of creative thinking and problem solving to help others. Sometimes I have to laugh at myself because even in my last year of Graduate School I still make references to the automotive industry when explaining different aspects of my work. It happened more times that any in my Historic Preservation Studio. Over the course of my academic career and my time at Engineering Services at Texas Tech, I have been able to apply my personal ideology to my architecture. Creating architecture that operates like a fine oiled machine – physically, socially, culturally, technologically – is a standard I uphold for all my projects. I’ve learned that architecture is a vessel, much like the body of a car, in which a wealth of factors culminates together to produce a final physical product. Working for Operations Division at Texas Tech has taught me the delicate art of balancing interdisciplinary collaboration in order to achieve project success. Hands-on experience has allowed me to find creative solutions to complex problems, expanded my insight into design, strengthened my management skills, and made me a true team player. Meeting with the contractors to analyze the construction documents was a large learning experience for me when I had the opportunity to work on the office remodel for Wall Hall Office. I was able to get a better understanding for exactly what they were looking for. In order to craft superior solutions for clients, Architects must pull from the resources of their fellow landscape architects, interior designers, and beyond.
