Urban Tree Merchants harvest wood from local unwanted or ailing DFW area trees. Our milling process provides our customers with beautiful raw slabs and unfinished material for their own personalized projects. Unfortunately trees get sick, die, or become a danger to buildings and people. They are cut down, chopped up, and typically taken to a landfill or burned. As a tree worker who loves a live tree and works to promote the tree’s long term health, it pains me to see decades old trees go to waste. Years of converting dirt, water, carbon monoxide into beautiful, strong useful wood and simply ending in a trash heap is just not right. Therefore, I had to start doing something with the large trunks that came from residential tree work. The hardest part was how to get the immovable logs to a mill large enough to convert them into lumber. So, following some research, I began building a mill that would allow me to convert the wood on site without having to move the log at all. With failure, practice, and modifications I’ve succeeded in producing quality milled slabs and lumber. My goal is to produce high quality custom lumber and slabs and make them available, affordable and convenient for customers in the heart of the DFW metroplex. I also want to create a network of woodworking hobbyists and professionals who can build finished products from the slabs. I would provide the wood on loan and trust that I will receive a finished product. The products will be offered from a single marketplace and after the sale the revenue will be disbursed accordingly.
