About Caleb Kime

Young professional with a keen interest in forest heath and invasive species management. I have cultivated these interests both though my educational and work experiences. I earned a B.S from The State University of Environmental Science and Forestry (SUNY ESF) in Syracuse, New York where I Majored in Forest health. During this curriculum I studied the many factors that contribute to forest health including: forest management, forest entomology, and forest and shade tree pathology. I wanted to further refine and cultivate my skills and knowledge in forest health and earned an M.S in Plant Pathology from The Ohio State University. During my tenure there, I conducted research involving early detection and identification of tree pathogens with invasive potential. During this experience I gained valuable experience in fungal identification using classic and molecular based approaches. My work experiences have helped to refine my applicable skills both in the filed as well as in laboratory settings. I spent three summers doing forest heath surveys across New York state with the Department of Environmental conservation where I learned critical field skills and experience in identification and observation of invasive tree insect pests and pathogens. I have more recently worked in a microbiology lab setting where I have further developed my skills in sample processing and identification of microorganisms using classic methods and biochemical tests.
