About Caleb Rice

I am an Australian tax lawyer and investigator in the Phoenix Program at the Australian Taxation Office (ATO). My team works with over 40 other Australian Government Phoenix Taskforce agencies (including ASIC, AUSTRAC, AFP, etc.) to detect, deter and disrupt illegal phoenix activity. We take action against phoenix operators by disrupting their business model, removing their ability to operate, applying financial penalties, and prosecuting the worst offenders. I have worked in tax and tax administration for over 6 years and have expertise in income tax, GST, Division 7A, anti-avoidance, PAYGW, FBT, administrative law, deceased estates, penalties, interest, privacy, secrecy, insolvency, corporations law, and administrative policy. I am a graduate of the University of Adelaide and hold a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting), Diploma in Languages (French Studies) and Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice (GDLP). I am also a graduate of the Tax Institute of Australia and hold a Graduate Certificate in Applied Tax Advisory (GCATA) and have completed the Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA) Program. I am a member of the Law Society of South Australia and will soon be admitted as a member of the Tax Institute of Australia and Chartered Tax Advisor (CTA).
