About Calixto Arroyo

My enthusiasm in pursuing a career in environmental science stems from my natural curiosity and devotion to the environment itself, and how to best incorporate sustainability into our everyday lives. As such this passion has led me to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Ecosystem Science and Sustainability. Which I have been able to implement and expand upon through my many experiences at Stantec, the Forest Preserve District of Cook County, Audubon Great Lakes, and the Student Conservation Association. I am a very hands-on individual that enjoys going out into the field to solve problems, as such I have a great interest in expanding my knowledge of data sampling and analysis. My experience, adaptability, and problem-solving skills translate well to habitat enhancement, environmental restoration, and vegetation management. I take pride that through my work experience I’ve led and assisted in several restoration projects that focus on the betterment of the environment and those that utilize it. Through invasive species control and vegetation management, I’ve improved overall biodiversity and health of wetlands, prairies, and woodlands. I’ve successfully implemented slope stabilization using erosion control measures such as erosion blankets, prairie grass and wetland seeding, and aquatic plant installation. In addition, incorporating these same methods towards stormwater management via the care of catch basins, detention ponds, and wetland buffers. I am very familiar with GPS mapping through the ArcGIS system, and I can utilize it well in daily activities to help develop work plans, gather data, and implementation of tasks. I am constantly focused on safety awareness through daily site risk assessments and ensuring that both myself and my team are following proper safety guidelines, PPE, tool usage and maintenance, are aware of hazards, and constant check-ins with field staff. I travel 100% of the time on a daily basis to client’s location in and around the state of Illinois such as Chicago, Cook County, Lake County, Will County, Iroquois County, Urbana-Champaign, Indiana, and Iowa.
