About Calla Pederson

I am an enthusiastic, dynamic, and hardworking student with field experience in low-till & organic agriculture from a variety of farms, field and lab experience in plant population genetics, and additional research experience in biological pest control agents, techniques, and efficacy. I aspire to have a career in sustainable agriculture, ideally working with people - whether that be farmers, agricultural workers, or community members - to help implement more sustainable practices as a member of a governmental or NGO organization. Other professional interests of mine include ethnobotany and traditional Indigenous knowledge (specifically, plant medicines), community nutrition & food justice, and farmworkers' rights. I'm excited to build my professional network and gain advice in pursuit of my career and educational goals. I recently received my master’s degree in biological and environmental sciences, with a focus on sustainable agriculture and food systems at the University of Rhode Island. My master’s research was focused on trialling broccoli varieties for heat-tolerance, for the purposes of local production in the face of climate change.
