About Callaghan Cavanaugh

I am a senior at Creighton University double majoring in political science and studio art. This summer, I worked as an intern in the office of U.S. Congressman Colin Allred (D-TX) in Washington, DC. Prior to my time on the House side, I interned for U.S. Senator Tammy Duckworth (D-IL). These opportunities have been an excellent chance to pursue my academic and career goals as well as experience life on Capitol Hill. I am an Omaha native and am very involved in the local community. From June 2023 to January 2024 I worked as an intern at Holy Name Housing Corporation, the largest Low Income Housing provider in the state. My time at HNHC helped me realize my passion for affordable housing policy and has given me a focus and direction in subsequent internships. Additionally, to engage my passion for art, last summer interned with BFF Omaha, a local arts and community organizing nonprofit. Both of these roles have helped me develop skills I can use to make my community a better place. I am also very involved in the Creighton community. I served as the Vice President of Membership for Delta Zeta Sorority and the Treasurer for Creighton Student Democrats. In my role as Vice President of Membership, I led and organized primary recruitment for Delta Zeta and engaged member retention efforts year-round. Additionally, last summer, I was awarded the Scheerer Scholars of the Arts program Fellowship, a distinguished scholarship opportunity awarded to only two students each year for outstanding dedication to service and the arts. I am also a member of Pi Sigma Alpha Political Science Honor Society and Kappa Pi National Art Honorary Fraternity. These involvements have helped me to develop proficient leadership skills, especially effective communication, managing group morale, conflict resolution, and problem-solving. With my degree, I hope to continue working to better my community through a career in nonprofit advocacy or policy work after I graduate in May 2025.
