About Callie Carter

I originally came to school seeking an Occupational Therapy (OT) degree and quickly learned through an Internship that OT was not for me. After talking to my advisor, I started thinking about my classes and what I enjoyed and excelled in. Psychology was my passion. I loved my classes, they challenged me and I did well in them. I then did an Internship at D1 with a sports counselor. My love of sports came from playing soccer for 17 years. I knew from then on that I wanted to work with athletes or just be in the sports field. I knew that Sports Psychology was an up and coming field but I knew that I would be great at it since my whole life had revolved around sports. At that time, my family was also going through some hardships with my brother. He had been deployed to Afghanistan with the Army for nine months my senior year of high school and returned with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Depression and Anxiety. A few months later, he was also diagnosed with chemical dependency and alcohol addiction. I saw how it impacted not only my family but my life, as well and became interested in Substance Abuse Counseling. I am now in the Clinical Counseling and Marriage and Family Therapy Program at Hardin-Simmons University. I have decided to get my LPC and LMFT. I also want to obtain my LCDC, as well as, my LPC – S. I have an internship at Oceans Behavioral Hospital and I see clients on campus. I am president of Chi Sigma Iota, which is our professional counseling honor society. I have taken part in Fields of Faith as a crisis counselor, I work in Career Services on campus as a graduate intern and I will be traveling to India to take part in counseling different populations there. With all of this I have maintained a 4.0 GPA. I am just now getting started in this field but I am excited to see what God has in store for my future.
