About Calvert Lum

After a rewarding 13 years in engineering, I changed direction and got involved in the financial services industry in 2003. My interest in financials all started when I completed the Canadian Securities Course back in 1996 in the middle of my engineering career. The goal initially was to gain knowledge to better my own personal investing skills. The thirst for knowledge grew and my next set of courses were the ones pursuant to the CFP designation. It was these set of courses that got me thinking about a career in financial services. I was so interested in personal investing and personal financial planning that I went so far as founding an investment share club (not investment club) under the banner of the Canadian MoneySaver magazine publication. I've been the President of the St.Albert/N.Edmonton Chapter since inauguration in 2005. Through monthly meetings, the goal of the club is to promote financial literacy. The club's motto is,"Increasing investor knowledge, one meeting at a time". On the family front, I have a lovely wife, Elaine, and two awesome kids, Alexis and Derek. I'm involved in my kid's sports by voluntering as minor hockey coach (since 2007) and minor soccer coach (since 2008). My interests involve the martial arts: Jiu Jitsu (black belt) and Muay Thai kickboxing. My kids also practice Jiu Jitsu.
