Background

About Calvin Bijl

I'm a Mechanical Engineer specializing in composite materials and 3D printing. My journey in engineering began with a Bachelor's degree from York University, followed by a Master's in Applied Science, focusing on thermoplastic composites and their repairability. My professional experience spans roles at Bridge Bike Works, where I led the design of a bicycle testing frame for ISO compliance and played a crucial role in developing new, patent-pending bicycle components. And at Canadian Nuclear Laboratories, where I spearheaded a research project to 3D print nuclear fuel for advanced reactor designs. Currently, I'm channelling my expertise into my Master's thesis, exploring innovative solutions to enhance the reparability of thermoplastic composites. I am keen on applying my knowledge and skills in practical settings, particularly in areas that intersect engineering and material science. I believe in collaborative problem-solving and am always eager to engage in projects that challenge me to grow and contribute to technological advancements.
